Barcelona removes that drive at the cost of some thirty hours on board, on a seasonal route with a few weekly departures. The calculation is therefore about total time and fatigue: leaving from Barcelona itself, the direct ship wins; from Andalusia, never.

The long routes to Nador traditionally carry heavily loaded vehicles, and operators accept this as personal effects. The limit is twofold: the declared vehicle height, which sets the fare category and must include any roof box, and the judgement of Moroccan customs at Beni Ensar, who reclassify as commercial import beyond obvious family use.

The ship enters the bay opposite Melilla, only fifteen kilometres from the Spanish city, and berths at the Beni Ensar terminal. Checks are handled at a single counter, with a separate vehicle area built to absorb summer peaks. Outside, the road follows the Marchica lagoon for thirteen kilometres to Nador: after a night and a day on board, that last leg is best taken without haste.

The programme concentrates on the return season, with a few weekly sailings in summer and a much thinner service outside that window. July and August vehicle spaces go as soon as sales open. For a winter trip to Morocco's Oriental region, the answer remains Almería or Motril, whose short routes run year-round with several sailings a week.
