Saint-Charles station is a quarter of an hour away by metro line 2 to Joliette. The A55 motorway serves the terminal directly from the north, the A7 from the Rhône valley. The Euroméditerranée district and the MuCEM are adjacent: it is one of the few embarkations in the catalogue where you can visit a museum in the morning and board in the afternoon without a transfer.

Sète, two hours' drive from Marseille on the A9, provides a steadier seasonal service to Tanger Med and Nador. For a fixed date out of season, the answer remains driving to Algeciras — 1,500 kilometres from Marseille — then a high-frequency Strait crossing. That is the constraint of French ports: few sailings, but a considerable saving in road distance when they run.

The MuCEM and Fort Saint-Jean adjoin the terminal, linked by the footbridge over the entrance to the Vieux-Port. The Major cathedral, with its bands of two-tone stone, rises above the quays. Le Panier, the city's oldest quarter, is ten minutes away on foot. Few ports let you fill half a day's wait this close to the boarding point.

The ship leaves Marseille's roadstead and the Frioul islands, crosses the Gulf of Lion — the stretch most exposed to the mistral on the whole route — then runs down past the Balearics and the Spanish Levante to Cabo de Gata. It then enters the Alboran Sea before passing the Strait of Gibraltar. The first hours are often the roughest, the lull coming after the Balearics.

Very well: Saint-Charles station receives TGVs from Paris in three hours, from Lyon in an hour and a half, and metro line 2 drops you at Joliette, next to the terminal. Marseille-Provence airport is twenty-five minutes away by shuttle. With Barcelona, it is the catalogue's most accessible port without a vehicle from across western Europe.

Half an hour on the A4 motorway, for 45 kilometres. There is no pedestrian exit from the port: shuttles serve Tangier's coach station and taxis wait outside the terminal. To reach Rabat or Casablanca, the motorway continues straight from the port, avoiding Tangier altogether. That is an advantage for those heading south, a drawback for those stopping in Tangier itself.

The registration document in the driver's name, insurance covering Morocco — the European green card does not include it and an extension is bought online or at the port — and the passport. The vehicle's temporary admission is issued on arrival at Tanger Med, valid six months per calendar year, and must be handed back when leaving Moroccan territory.
